Spencer Jay is a folk and roots musician based in Hamilton, Ontario. The road that brought him here winds through London, Brampton, and more than a decade in Winnipeg. He has been singing for as long as he can remember, drawn first to the old upright organ in his grandparents' home, then to a guitar at eleven years old, and eventually to stages across the country.
Before settling into the intimacy of solo acoustic performance, Spencer spent his formative years playing in bands, sharing bills with the likes of Cancer Bats, Holly Springs Disaster, and Lifestory: Monologue. That background, steeped in post-hardcore urgency and emotional directness, never fully left him. It surfaces now in the weight he brings to a quiet song, the tension held inside a gentle chord.
His sound sits at the intersection of folk, Americana, and roots, shaped by the songwriting of Jason Isbell and Gregory Alan Isakov, the raw emotional honesty of Glen Hansard, and the timeless feel of Eric Clapton's best acoustic work. Spencer makes music because it keeps him grounded. No matter how unsettled the day, an hour with his guitar brings him back to himself. That search for peace, and the willingness to be honest about needing it, is at the heart of everything he plays.
